I was on the air when the speech was delivered. I’m good at multi-tasking, but not that good. I’ve digested the speech since then and found good and bad. Let’s try this excerpt: “The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works, whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.” You can imagine that I wasn’t impressed with this. I’m sorry, but the size of government is important. Size equates to cost. Government costs us enough. Government is force. The bigger the government, the more the threat of force. Besides .. just where is it written that it is the role of government to help families find jobs at a decent wage. Since when is it government’s role to provide us with a dignified retirement?
